Phase labels are assigned by ArcAlpha’s nightly structural read of each stock’s price and volume behavior. Percentages are shares of all stocks with a phase read on that timeframe.
Market breadth — % of stocks advancing
last 60 sessions · Apr 30 → Jul 27Above the 50% line, more stocks rose than fell that session. Persistent readings on one side of the line are how broad market moves look under the hood.
Sector rotation, by phase
Rotation isn’t an opinion — it’s visible in which sectors’ stocks are entering uptrend phases and which are slipping into downtrend phases.

How to read the phases
The vocabulary comes from the classic Wyckoff way of reading markets: price cycles between quiet sideways ranges and trending moves, in both directions.
After a decline, price stops falling and moves sideways while buyers quietly absorb supply. The downtrend has paused and structure is leaning constructive.
The uptrend itself — price is making sustained upward progress. The most straightforwardly bullish phase of the cycle.
A pause inside an uptrend. Price rests sideways after an advance, with structure suggesting the trend is digesting gains rather than topping.
After an advance, price stalls and moves sideways while structure deteriorates — the classic topping posture where supply overwhelms demand.
The downtrend itself — price is making sustained downward progress. The most straightforwardly bearish phase of the cycle.
A pause inside a downtrend. Price rests sideways after a decline, with structure suggesting the downtrend is resting rather than reversing.
A sideways pause after an advance where the evidence is genuinely mixed — neither clearly digesting nor clearly topping yet.
A sideways pause after a decline where the evidence is genuinely mixed — the market has stopped falling but has not yet shown accumulation.

The vocabulary traces back to the Wyckoff tradition of reading price and volume structure.
